Samson Tonton, a Haitian artist based in Connecticut, is renowned for his vibrant acrylic paintings that merge Cubist aesthetics with rich cultural narratives. Born and raised in the Haitian countryside, Tonton spent his formative years surrounded by nature’s beauty, an early influence that would later shape his artistic vision. Even as a child, he was drawn to the arts, often sketching and doodling with whatever materials he could find. His passion for painting began to flourish in high school, where he explored themes like sunsets, flowers, and landscapes, using his environment as a natural muse.

In 2007, Tonton moved to the United States to join his mother and siblings, seeking greater opportunity and access to education. He later attended the New England Institute of Art in Boston, where he studied media art and animation, though he eventually returned to painting as his true creative outlet.

Today, his work reflects a dynamic blend of influences, from the African roots of Cubism to the vibrancy of Caribbean life. Tonton’s art is both personal and political, often inviting viewers to reimagine nature, identity, and self through bold shapes, expressive lines, and symbolic forms. As an educator and a full-time artist, he continues to share his vision and heritage with audiences across the U.S., staying rooted in the culture and spirit of his homeland.
