Rising as One Caribbean

Oct 30, 2025

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, communities across the region have once again shown what binds the Caribbean beyond geography, its people. From the smallest islands to the largest nations, there is a shared rhythm of resilience, empathy and togetherness that defines the region’s soul.

At moments like these, art transcends expression and becomes language. Jamaican artist Taoszen captures this beautifully in his mural “Connection”, created in Curaçao. Four hands, each distinct yet intertwined, represent the four languages spoken across the island: English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamentu. Through colour, gesture and form, Taoszen reminds us that language is more than words; it is a bridge. It deepens understanding and reminds us that no matter where we are from, we can always connect, even if it is on one shared thing.

Painted in vibrant tones that reflect the Caribbean’s warmth and vitality, “Connection” speaks to what it means to rebuild, not only physically but emotionally and culturally. The Caribbean’s true strength lies in its creativity, its collective spirit and the unshakable belief that no storm can wash away its unity.

As communities rise after Hurricane Melissa, may this be a moment of reaffirmation: that we are, and always will be, One Caribbean. United in compassion. United in culture. United in art.
