What do you get when you blend Caribbean creativity with the grandeur of a world-class cruise liner? A masterpiece in motion.
Royal Caribbean International has just unveiled the latest cohort of Caribbean creatives selected for its celebrated Artist Discovery Program. These four remarkable artists are set to transform the upcoming Star of the Seas into a floating gallery, bursting with culture, colour, and Caribbean soul.
This isn’t your average cruise décor. It’s storytelling through strokes, heritage through hues and magic that sails across the sea.
Meet the Chosen Four: A Quartet of Caribbean Brilliance
From a pool of over 80 submissions across the region, these artists rose to the top , and they’re about to leave their mark (quite literally) on Royal Caribbean’s newest wonder.
Angurria (Néstor Omar García) – Dominican Republic
Urban flair meets cultural pride in Angurria’s striking style. His mural, which will welcome guests in the embarkation area, promises to be a warm and unforgettable introduction.
Taoszen (Anthony Smith) – Jamaica
Taoszen’s work is unmistakably beautiful. Located in the Royal Promenade, his mural will pulse with vibrant colour and striking imagery, inviting guests into a world of imagination.
Saegel Bascombe – Trinidad & Tobago
Shaz’s art is like a Soca beat... joyful, layered and full of life. Her contribution to the Suite Sun Deck lobby will fill the space with warmth, rhythm and radiant energy.
Philippe Dodard – Haiti
Philippe’s soulful style brings depth, history and poetry. As a returning artist, his mosaic piece for the Suite Sun Deck will offer guests a serene yet powerful reflection of cultural legacy and timeless beauty.
Backing Big Visions
Each artist will be awarded between $20,000 and $100,000 USD to bring their vision to life. But this isn’t just about funding murals, it’s about investing in the Caribbean’s cultural capital, spotlighting its creativity, and championing its voices on a global scale.
Jay Schneider, Chief Product Innovation Officer at Royal Caribbean, shared:
“Collaborating with the places we visit is at the heart of what we do and who we are at Royal Caribbean. This year’s selection is special, and we’re thrilled about the vibrant, beautiful, and cultural murals that’ll be on Star of the Seas for years to come.”
Why This Matters
Set to debut in August 2025, Star of the Seas will carry more than just guests, it will carry the essence of the Caribbean, woven into its very walls. These murals will do more than beautify a ship, they’ll spark dialogue, inspire connection and offer guests a deeper, more meaningful encounter with the region.
This marks the second edition of Royal Caribbean’s Artist Discovery Programme, following its successful launch aboard Icon of the Seas. And if this latest cohort is anything to go by, the future of Caribbean art is not just bright , it’s dazzling.
Celebrating the Artists
To Angurria, Taoszen, Saegel, and Philippe, a huge congratulations! Your work will soon be sailing across the globe, offering guests a taste of the Caribbean’s heartbeat and reminding us all that art is more than a picture, it’s a journey.
