UNESCO has launched the Youth for Peace: Intercultural Leadership Programme, a transformative initiative aimed at empowering young leaders to champion intercultural dialogue as a strategy to address pressing global challenges. This program seeks to cultivate a new generation of champions for dialogue, cohesion, and peace, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resources to lead transformative action at local, national, and global levels.(UNESCO)


Empowering Youth Through Dialogue


The Youth for Peace programme is designed to equip emerging leaders with the tools necessary to foster social cohesion in an increasingly diverse world. By focusing on intercultural dialogue, participants will learn to navigate and bridge cultural differences, promoting understanding and collaboration within their communities.(UNESCO)


Programme Highlights


1. Capacity-Building Workshops


Participants will engage in immersive online training sessions that provide strategic insights into intercultural leadership. These workshops aim to develop practical skills for implementing community-based projects that address social cohesion and peacebuilding.(UNESCO)


2. Financial Support for Community Projects


After completing the training, participants will design and submit proposals for community projects aligned with the programme's theme. Approved projects will receive a grant of $10,000 USD, along with ongoing mentorship and support to ensure successful implementation. (UNESCO)


3. Global Networking Opportunities


Participants will become part of a dynamic international network of young leaders and changemakers. This includes access to UNESCO's resources, participation in the Global Youth Dialogue for Peace, and contributions to the UNESCO Global Intercultural Action Observatory.(UNESCO)


Programme Timeline


  • September 2025: Online training workshops commence.

  • October 2025: Submission of community project plans; grants disbursed.

  • November 2025 – May 2026: Project implementation with ongoing mentorship.

  • April 2026: Participation in the in-person UNESCO Global Youth Leaders Dialogue for Peace in Guangzhou, China.

  • May 2026: Submission of final project reports.

  • From May 2026 onwards: Continued involvement in the Alumni Network and UNESCO-led opportunities.(UNESCO)


Eligibility Criteria


Applicants must:

  • Be between 25 and 45 years old as of 1 September 2025.

  • Demonstrate a proven record of leadership in their field.

  • Show a commitment to intercultural dialogue and social impact.

  • Have the potential to influence and create change within their communities.

  • Be available to participate in all components of the programme.(UNESCO)


Community-led projects should align with the theme ‘Learning to Collaborate for a Shared Future: Using dialogue to foster social cohesion in a world on the move’ and be implementable within six months.(UNESCO)


Application Details


  • Deadline: June 22, 2025, 23:59 CET (Paris time).

  • Application Process: Interested candidates must complete the online application form and submit the required documents.

  • Selection: An international jury will evaluate applications, and the final 50 participants will be notified by August 2025.(UNESCO)
